Metrolinx is building a 18-kilometre Hurontario Light Rail Transit (LRT) which is supposed to bring a reliable method of transportation to a rapidly growing region.

According to Metrolinx: “The new transit system will feature 19 stops, travel through two urban growth centres and connect to major transit systems including GO Transit (Milton and Lakeshore West lines), the Mississauga Transitway, Brampton Transit, ZUM and MiWay. The Hurontario LRT will also have its own dedicated lane ensuring a smooth, reliable and convenient ride along the region’s busiest street.”

LRT for Kingsbridge is a community group formed by the residents of Kingsbridge in central Mississauga to bring awareness and action for a LRT stop to be built in their neighborhood.

Here are the facts:

  • The Kingsbridge community has the highest population density along the 18km route WITHOUT a LRT station.
  • There are over 12,000 residents within a 250-meter radius of this stop.
  • Kingsbridge’s density is higher than ALL the approved stations!
  • Our taxes are paying for the LRT.
  • The next closest LRT station requires crossing 3 intersections.
  • Two of these are the top 10 most dangerous, including the #1 most dangerous intersection in Mississauga
  • More than 1,000 people with disabilities regularly make their way to facilities in Kingsbridge. Safety and accessibility are serious concerns
  • There are over 500 office employees (high demand user) including Coalition of People with Disabilities that require an LRT station at Kingsbridge & Hurontario today.
  • Low-income neighbors at Acorn Place.
